Overview & Reviews
The base trim level has been dropped. The 2.7-liter V6 is now standard (the LX still gets the 3.5-liter V6), as is an automatic transmission. Also newly standard this year are four-wheel antilock brakes and traction control. Exterior changes include a new grille surround, side cladding, taillamps, tailgate handle, rear bumper design and alloy wheels. Inside, there is new seat fabric, an upgraded two-tone color scheme and a revised instrument cluster. A power driver seat is now standard on the LX, and a compass is included with the optional sunroof.
- Reasonable price, strong warranty, roomy interior, long list of standard features, solid construction, good crash test scores.
- Thirsty at the pump for a small car-based SUV, soft suspension limits handling ability.

2005 Overview - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
By B Thomma - May 30 - 11:56 pmCar has been reliable and meets my needs. The only problem has been the check engine has continually been going on. This has caused me to return to the dealer to have it corrected. The problem in every instance is in the gas cap overfill. The dealership has always fixed the problem and given a loaner car when needed. Another problem was with the radio. The AM reception was no good. This was their top of the line radio. They replaced it with a less expensive radio and the problem was corrected.

Hyandi - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
By Susie - December 21 - 11:06 amThe leather heated seats were uncomfortable with a bar in the lower part of the seat to the back. Also the heated seats only heated the seat not the back.

Loved my Santa Fe - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
By JennHenz - November 19 - 10:33 pmMy Santa Fe was the best driving vehicle Ive owned. It got fair gas mileage for an SUV (19-23 MPG). The car was totaled in an accident (neither our or the cars fault) but my husband and I both walked away without a scratch. My husband is 6 tall and didnt like to drive it because even with the seat all the way back, his knees were still in the dash. It wouldve been better with an MP3 player.

2005 santa fe - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
By hawk - October 21 - 8:40 amIve had this car for a year now and have taken several road trips, so now believe I can really eval. the car. No problems with relability, or driving so far. Inside however is a different story. some of the controls are confusing to operate, not real comfortable on long trips, and the fold down back seats get stuck everytime I need to use them. The worst problem is the dealership and service dept. At first I thought they were going to be great, as they bent over backwards to make me happy at purchasing, but getting service or support after the fact, forget it!

My Lil Kim - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
By MIKE POWELL - April 22 - 7:06 pmI bought the Fwd 6 cylinder, and it definitely has the get-up-and-go. It has the power when you need it, such as having to enter on the highway with little room to accelerate. I find it to be the perfect size for all my needs. Way to go Hyundai!

Love it so far - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
By Gail - March 21 - 7:16 amI bought this used with over 70,000 miles. Love the car so far, except for fuel economy - coming out of a standard 4-cyl Accord this is a shocker to me. The Santa Fe is awesome in all aspects except for the fuel. I cannot wait to try it in the snow and I am looking forward to buying an updated model after this one. Would definitely buy another one.

The good and the not-so-good - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
By Denis - March 6 - 11:16 amI enjoy my Santa Fe very much. The 3.5 engine has plenty of zip and the car handles very well. Biggest drawback is getting into car. The natural tendancy is to lean forward to clear the door with your head but the overly raked windshield makes this manuever ill-advised. The rear seats not only fold down (although not 100% flat), they also recline which make them much more comortable than the Subaru Forester which I considered. Standard safety features are outstanding such as side air bags & reinforced doors,ABS 4 wheel disc brakes, heated power mirrors. My Santa Fe came standard with AC, powerful CD/Cassette, AM/FM, Cruise, power everything except seats, remote entry w/alarm & much more

Great until you break - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
By thrddgreeburns - December 28 - 8:06 pmThe Santa Fe is a woderful vehicle until you want to break; mainly when its raining, snowing or youre going down a hill. It keeps on going when you want to stop. Im surprised I havent gotten into an accident yet (knock on wood). When I told the mechanic at Sussman, he said that it was a safety feature and I shouldnt worry about it. How can I not worry about potentially running into another car is beyond me. Other than that, the SUV rides really well. I was skeptical because of their rep. in the past but theyve made a believer out of me. Hyundai is a good vehicle thats great on gas. Thanks for listening.
